Spooky, not scary
Trick-or-Treat Safety
A short list, but a serious one. Keep the night fun for everyone in the costume parade.
For Parents
Stay In Groups
Kids under 12 should never trick-or-treat alone. Adults walk along; teens travel in pairs minimum.
Plan the Route
Stick to well-lit, familiar streets. Share the route via phone before heading out.
Inspect All Candy
Toss anything unwrapped, homemade from strangers, or with torn packaging. When in doubt, throw it out.
Watch the Roads
Pedestrian risk peaks on Halloween. Cross at corners, never between parked cars.
For Kids
Carry a Flashlight
Bring a flashlight or wear glow sticks so cars and grown-ups see you coming.
Costumes That See
Skip masks that block your view — use face paint, or push masks up between houses.
Be Polite, Then Move
Say thank you, never go inside a stranger's home, and stick with your group at all times.
Walk, Don't Run
Long capes and dragging hems trip easily. Walk between houses; save the running for the candy haul reveal.
Emergency? Dial 911.
Save your address and a parent's phone number inside your kid's candy bag — every year, every costume.
